The Horror.... The Horror....
Well after a great day last Sunday at evenTT10 and even better getting 2nd place in the concourse event it was time to leave for home, had been a long and hot day and was feeling tired and my knees where killing me (osteoarthritis in both knees).
On the m6 toll we decided to pull in at some services for a coffee and a walk around, any way for some god only knows reason I parked close to the entrance, I usually park in a field far away from other cars lol Had a coffee and a stroll around to stretch my legs and then decided to head back to the car, now when I left the car there was nothing parked next to me on the driver’s side, and on returning to the car the space was still empty..... But in that short space of time I returned to the car to find this.
Now to say I was angry was a major understatement, a large dent and a large crease right on the swage line (that is the line at the same height as the door handle) I felt sick.
So the next day my mission was to get this sorted asap, I needed a local body shop in my area, so onto Google for body shop repair in the Wigan area ,loads came up but what caught my eye was a link to PDR.. Paintless Dent Repairs now that is what I needed, I knew the hassle I was going to have trying to find a good body shop who would do the job and get a paint match and not have the car for weeks.
So more searches on Google for PDR and watching a few videos on YouTube about PDR this is what I needed, so I found a local company close to me that did PDR and I gave them a ring...all sorted yes....as usual with life nothing is as straight forward as it seems, the guy on the phone was very professional and asking me the usual questions, what car colour ect ect, then what size is the dent.
I said about the size of a golf ball bit with a vertical crease in the middle, no problem he said, where about on the door, I said near the door handle on the swage line....at that point it went quiet, then he came back with the bomb shell, sorry Syd you can’t do dent removal on the swage line on a TT as that area is double skinned with the impact bar, so I thanked him and sat at my computer.
I almost gave up but thought I would get a 2nd opinion so back on the net and I found this company dentsinc.co.uk nice website and 15yrs in the game.
I gave the number a ring and spoke to a guy called Ben, he asked all the same info as the 1st company and then told him about the dent, he came back with basically the same... most dent guys will not do dent removal on the swage line on a TT as that area is double skinned with the impact bar/box section, but I have found a way to do it.
I was sceptical at his claims but he agreed to come and look and no fix no fee, all was arranged for Thursday at 9am, I forget where he was coming from but it was a good distance, anyway 9am and he was there (always a good start when a company say a time and they arrive at that time) after a brief chat Ben set to work.
He removed the door card and with a large collection of rods, bars , soft hammers BLOWTORCH and other strange tools I watched a true craftsman at his profession, the dent was disappearing in front of my eyes, Ben informed me that a dent that size would usually take around 15mins, but due to the double skinned box section inside the door it would take longer, around 1hr later I was absolutely lost for words and this is what he achieved.

The dent was removed 100%... in the reflection on the door there was NO distortion and I was a happy chappy, it turned out Ben knew a few people in the car detailing game that I did, and did all the dents for my friend Matthew at www.offyourmarks.com/contact and if his work was good enough for Matthew it would be the best in the game.
Yes it may seem that i am promoting Ben and his company, but it is very rare that i feel that i have to tell people about a top service i received, and will help the TT community.
